The Knight and Garter in Leicester City Centre is the latest addition to multitude of new pubs and restaurants in and around Leicesters Cultural Quarter. I was lucky enough to be invited along to their grand opening courtesy of the great online magazine Cool As Leicester and was asked to give my honest opinion. So lets dive in and I’ll give you the low down on the brand new Knight and Garter gastropub in Leicester.
The Knight and Garter has been created in the same building once occupied by Molly O’Gradys. The old Molly O’Gradys, and all of its run down decor has thankfully been erased from memory and the entire building has undergone an extensive renovation. The Knight and Garter is like a palace in comparison and has some fantastically designed decor which blends both contemporary and classic designs. It’s comfortable yet fashionable. There’s both a dedicated and segregated restaurant area as well as a large bar room so “drinks only” clientele have a place here as well as those out for a full dining experience.
As part of the launch event we wasn’t given full meals but instead go to taste a number of the normal menu dishes in bite sized portions. It gave a good insight in the how good the quality of the ingredients were that feature in their recipes. I was pretty impressed! Everything from the Mushroom and Mozzarella Arancini to the Argentinian Rump Steak was cooked nicely and presented well.
A look at the full Knight and Garter menu showed a good array of different dishes for all tastes however my one gripe is that Vegetarians only have one dish per course. So you either have to like whats on the menu or ask for something different which some people wont like to do.
The Knight and Garter cocktails menu was worth a look and had some unique items on there to try like the Burnt Chocolate Orange and the Mango and Chilli Margarita. There was also a good wine selection and a number of continental beers to try.
In summary the Knight and Garter in Leicester City Centre is well worth a visit and I certainly will be going back there again to try out the full menu. Its pleasant surroundings and wide selection of drinks make it a place to visit whether you’re looking to dine or only to drink.
I’ll be sure to provide a full review once we’ve been to visit!
